Project carried out by ILM SRL in ATS and effective collaboration with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio and the Scientific and Technological Park of Southern Lazio.
PROJECT TITLE:
Realization of an innovative test device for the “Crashworthiness” design of aircraft
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:
The project aims to consolidate knowledge relating to the mechanical behavior of materials of aeronautical interest in the intermediate range of deformation speed (characteristic of events such as bird impact, aircraft seat crashworthines, FOD foreign object damage, etc.), for the improvement of advanced component design with the aid of numerical simulation and calculation tools (Design-By-Analysis, DBA).
TARGETS:
The project aims to achieve the following objectives: – the design and construction of a test device for carrying out tests in the range of intermediate strain rates (10-100 / s); – the construction of a proprietary database for a selection of materials of aeronautical interest including materials obtained with additive manufacturing techniques; – the development of a modeling, based on the combined use of experimental tests and numerical simulation, for the prediction of the effect of the deformation rate on the response of the material in the field of application of aeronautical interest to support crashworthiness design
